Yet again I am reminded you must remain flexible. On this day we set out knowing the weather might turn around 2 p.m. We arrived in perfect conditions. Blue bird skies with soft preserved snow, hot enough to strip to a T-shirt on the approach but cool enough not to affect the snow with the solar. With stable snow it got our excitement way up. Especially following a beauty of a tour a few days prior. We set out with grandiose plans to ride two east faces and exit on a couloir we attempted 2 years ago only to fail. As we reached the summit of the first peak, we were reminded that the forecasted storm was rolling in as predicted. We also realized our first east face entrance had a concerning cornice along the entire entrance to the run. With weather moving in and the tough entrance to our first planned run we bailed on initial plans and went with the flow. We enjoyed a south facing run out in pretty good shape and then got suckered back into investigating the couloir we were unable to ride two years ago. Yet again the snow was way too thin to commit to the top half and were foiled for a second time. It was decided that this one may never happen. I think if it does it will have to be later in the year. The highlight of the day was seeing some of the best wolverine tracks I've seen to date. Another good day in the hills!
