Staring at this beast for years from the adjacent range always had me wanting to ski it. From any angle you look its prominence is undeniable. Especially when looking from the east side, holding snow well into summer. Two seasons ago in May I devoted two trips to the peak to finally ski two of its aspects. Just skiing the peak, a special experience after putting it on such a pedestal for so many years. I could not help but want to ski a third aspect. With COVID I did not even make it into the range for an entire season, forced to stare at the face I wanted to ride for an entire season, wondering what it would be like, studying photos and hoping someday to ski it. This mountain game is a game of patience, and this forecasted April weekend seemed like the right time to give it a shot. We were treated to a near perfect day and luckily caught this face in perfect condition. It is hard to explain the joy you get out of finally being in an area that you have thought about for numerous years but at times it almost seems surreal, or like it never really happened. All I know is that the next time I look over to this massive chuck of rock from the adjacent range my thoughts will shift from wonder to fond memories of a place I have now seen firsthand.
