What at first seemed to be shaping up to be our third early start to the season stalled out in November. There is a decent pack above 7000 feet but without ample fresh snow it has become variable and still pretty thin. Lets hope this early old snow does not haunt us. I am excited for the season to kick off in the near future.

Western Larch Season
One of my favorite times of the year is the turning of the Larch trees in Western Montana. It is hard to explain but the vivid color they produce draws me out to witness the beautiful, short change of scenery. I was nervous this season with the "historic" winter storm and cold snap in September followed by a few unseasonably cold winter like storms in October that the golden needle season would be a short one. To my surprise they hung on surprisingly long as we shifted to a dryer and warmer November. I was lucky to catch a few bike rides, runs and delightful ski outings before it was over.
